[desktop client; Windows 10] Overlapping text / some UI issues

There are a couple of UI issues (if you use different languages):

Overlapping text:

1. Start a Swarm (issue if you choose for example French or German)

2. Create a Swarm (if you choose German)

Another issue:

[x] If you try to change the language it won't change the language of Application theme "horizontal View" and Layout "Bright" (the language that was used when you first opened Jami will be used) - It will only change if you exit Jami and open Jami again

Next issue:

The language of your contacts descriptions won't update. You either have to exit Jami and open Jami again or you have to click another option like "Start swarm" and then "Cancel" so that the language of the contact and its chatview will update

Again overlapping text (maybe related #817 (closed) ?):

BTW: The size of chat text will never update. Is this behaviour wanted?

Maybe you can try out different monitor resolutions and aspect ratios.

Yes, it's text zoom, not scaling (else use QT_SCALE_FACTOR=2)

Also most of the issues are duplicated from #301 (closed) (all the images with ellipsis).

Sorry if I postet some duplicates ... but at least the language issues should be new?

BTW ... could you create a topic / linked item / relates to ... or anything else that will fit so you and the other developers can see all the UI issues mentioned?

Not really, Ovari already posted an issue about text not re-translating when changed at runtime.

The only thing I don't think there is issue about is text too big to got in the content (the first, last, delete account label and general settings screenshot)

I think, many issues here could be solved with shorter titles. As the GNOME Hig admonishes, English descriptions can easily increase by 30%, if translated.

E.g. the "Create a Swarm" example above, which is fine in English, but becomes "Einen Schwarm erstellen" in German -too long! Now take out the article to get "Create Swarm" and then "Schwarm erstellen" and it magically works.

So less is more here. Just brainstorming in the below screenshots for inspiration.

Of course - that's ONE possibility ... but it should be fixed without having to change the strings itself.

Even if we change them later.

Personally I would keep at least "Convert your account into a rendevouz point" and "enable local moderators" and "Make all participants moderators" is also important and should not be deleted

I wasn't sure about the technicalities of the moderation issue

...

but thought

• if moderation is off => no moderation => every one has equal rights
• if moderation is one, the selection entry field appears.

But anyway.. this is a design question and must be discussed in detail. Just the "Create a Swarm" --> "Einen Schwarm erstellen" is what it is.. to much text for a small field.

May I ask: Once fixed there shouldn't be any overlapping text anymore -regardless which monitor resolution (720p, 4K, custom resolution) and zoom level you use?

Thank you for your suggestion. I have tested the application using different zoom levels and monitored various screen resolutions. I've observed some issues related to the custom component not adapting properly in these scenarios. It seems that the architecture of the custom component(in settings form) needs to be revised to ensure better compatibility with different zoom levels, screen resolutions, languages.

I think there are still some issues (like #886 (comment 40646) )in the call layout if you use different zoom levels and screen resolutions?
