All messages are, for now present in .local/share/jami/xxxxx/history.db so you can browse messages on your device.

Sorry, maybe that was misleading. It's about a visual in app solution. It's not about users having to search their hidden system files first.

You want to search in the local database right? If so, any sql viewer does the stuff.

Yes, but it's about a normal app feature like it will be built into the Matrix clients https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web/projects/16#card-18662350, it's not about any external programs or processes.

Ok, so let's forget about encrypted database or the backend. You talk about searching in conversations. And I agree, there should be a way to search something in all conversations. And this would be useful. LRC should supports this.

To the Discord example: Since there are otherwise two search fields next to each other, a new graphical solution is needed for Jami, right?

Do you think it makes sense to move the issue to LRC to work on a common solution for all clients?

I find all of this can be done in the current search bar. But at this point it's an UX problem

This feature not-being-implemented is an everyday problem for me. :/ So surprised this feature not usable, i tried to see if there was a irc-like command /search ...

A simpler search above discussion itself would be easier to understand (like a filter that tell to the gui if the message shall be shown while updating the view). Too, for this pane the key "Ctrl+S"(search-filter) is not taken.

I never use the contact searchbar, not sure many people use it everyday (only useful for contact discovering — that doesn't exist in discord —).

Too, advanced search features can be really interesting, but isn't more interesting to start with minimalist feature to show that jami-client could do what is in most messenger apps.

Yes and no. I mean I started a patch like 4 years ago to do that, but we are currently re-doing the whole conversations system, so imho it's just not a good idea to work on this while we do not support group chat, because the whole backend for conversations will change.
