There seems to be strong consensus that GPL is not compatible with the App Store: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/6109/is-it-possible-to-have-gpl-software-in-the-mac-app-store See also @ssalenik 's comments.

Distributing Apps without the Apple store is very restricted, and would likely make this feature not worth it: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/982476/iphone-app-without-appstore
