Regarding the build system and CMake: it would be sufficient to have a build system wrap the existing CMake system, provided that it meets GNU standards. I recommend using Autoconf/Automake to make things easier, as it's very difficult to reach GNU's standards otherwise. The standard Makefile targets and configuration options are described, respectively, in the GNU Coding Standards document: https://www.gnu.org/prep/standards/standards.html\#Standard-Targets https://www.gnu.org/prep/standards/standards.html\#Managing-Releases RMS stated that this is an acceptable long-term solution, which is good news for Ring development-wise; there's a lot of CMake stuff going on!
