Same exact issue for me, as well. However, I am on Android 9.
Just tried selecting "Advanced Settings" instead of Account Settings and I could see that...except it stops scrolling before reaching the bottom (I can barely see the top of the "Diagnostic Logs" option).
Actually, the "About Jami" section has the same "stopping short" problem when scrolling to bottom. Can't see all of the Savoir-faire Linux logo.
Ooh! Update: just tapped Account Settings again, it crashed, opened again, and now I see my account name and icon, as well as two dates/times and the sample text from two of my conversations. No names or icons, yet, and the most recent one is invisible.
Confirmed, I can tap into them, even the invisible one. However, no names are appearing, nor icons, and the text box and all items associated with it are missing (tapping the region does nothing).
Feedback: it might be redundant to have "members" in a private swarm conversation, since it, by definition, will include only you and the other person you are talking with.
Also, tapping "Search Conversation" and then tapping the back button in app (upper left) crashed the app, as well. Confirmed: search works, but exiting out of it, even with the system back button, crashes the app.
Hurray! I can access account settings now! It has the orange "syncing" icon for my online status, right now. So far, none of the other sub-sections in there crash the app by entering or exiting them. Exiting Account Settings does not crash it either.
Positive feedback: I am very pleased with the direction to eliminate excess/redundancy and unify sections within the app. This is a very good direction, I think.
Restored from backup or from linked device (tried both)
Account creation did not finish; after long time waiting closed window
Re-opening Jami - account was somehow "semi-connected"- no way to start conversation (searching does not work) and previous contacts did not show up.
So - no way to use the program for now...
Update:
I waited an hour, moved to another room with a different Wi-fi network and opened it again. It began appearing just like the first screenshot, then I tapped Account Settings, which crashed the app, and the opened it again and tapped on Account Settings again, which worked (and my account status was now green online, instead of the orange syncing icon from earlier). Then I backed out to the main page and everything was visible!
Feedback: the green "online" icons are darker than usual, same with the "Start a new conversation" button. Not sure if I like that.
I went into a conversation and everything was visible there, too. This includes the text box and associated items. I attempted to compose and send a message — it worked with both contacts. I haven't tested sending media (images, video), yet.
In the group chat, under the Contact Details, tapping the "Add a description" text causes it to crash and auto restart (as opposed to crashing to homescreen).
This issue is still present for me: #1126 (closed)
Is this a problem for anyone else?
Also, any message that is selected by long-pressing stays in its darkened blue state. Any additional messages selected also enter into this state. For indtance, if I select one message and then another after, both of them remain in a selected state. The o ly way to clear them of this state is to back out of the conversation. I tried taking logs of that event, but I don't know if those actions were recorded. Logs
I'm wondering if this initial breakage is partially related to some syncing happening on startup after the update. Clearly not all of it is, but this may be a common factor, since the post above mine, as well as my first here, mention something about syncing or being "semi-connected."
Make at least the Version 20221107-01 (347) in F-Droid as non-Suggested until the fix arrives as users upgrading from Version 20221007-01 (346) just ruin their Jami installation...
@aberaud The new build jyst arrived on F-Droid and I can confirm it is immediately more stable. No crashes, I can scroll to the bottom of each Settings page, and messages seem to be fine.
However, two problems persist:
The issue of the highlight never going away after selecting a message (each new message selected adds to amount highlighted), except when exiting out of a channel. (I mentioned this in my post above yours)
This issue regarding the lack of sent/recieved confirmation icons: #1126 (closed)
The first one is a minor graphical/UI bug, while the second has had a significant impact on usability for me and my contacts. We souls really appreciate it being fixed soon.
Thank you for your prompt response to this issue and releasing a quality update.
