Typing backspace in a message while in video call hides the message editing screen

• Ring version: 20180712
• Device model: HTC U-Play
• Android version: 6.0
• What build you are using: F-droid

Steps to reproduce

• Can you reproduce the bug: at will
• Steps:
  1. Initiate a video call. 2. Click the burger menu, select 'Text messaging' 3. Type some text, then backspace
• Actual result: Screens goes back to video (or crash, or Play Store release)
• Expected result: Text is deleted if any; message editing screen doesn't vanish.

Hi there thank you for your feedback. It shouldn't crash any more, it is a feature implemented for the backspace to return to call since it would mean you don't need to type elsewhere. Should we close this issue ?

Hi @mfenjiro, and thanks for fixing the crash!

The "feature" of hiding the input text box when there is no longer any character to delete seems unnatural to me. IMO, it is a surprising behavior that goes against user expectation: I don't recall seeing a similar behavior in another Android application.

Deleting a message to start over is a common thing to do when texting. I don't think we should get in the way of the user by attempting to outsmart her.
