Fedora packaging weirdnesses
Issue generated from Tuleap's migration script. Originally submitted by: Jerome Oufella (jero)
Following the install procedure on Fedora 23 leads to this weird behavior:
$ sudo dnf install ring-gnome
...
$ ring
bash: ring: command not found...
Install package 'ring-gnome' to provide command 'ring'? [N/y]
$ ...
The command is listed as provided by ring-gnome.
$ dnf provides '*bin/ring'
ring-gnome-1.0.0-20160502153300~git5e922d7b.i686 : Ring GNOME client
Repo : ring
Note: ring-gnome is actually listed 88 times just for Fedora 23. In normal situations, packages are just listed once, maybe 2 if two distinct repositories provide the same package (eg. Fedora and Fedora Updates).
However, if we inspect the package after instannation, there is no trace of a ring executable:
$ rpm -ql ring-gnome | grep ring$
/usr/bin/gnome-ring
My guess is an antique package where ring existed that is not cleaned up from the repository make the confusion happen.
