Distorted sound when output device is changed from default

Steps to reproduce

1. Open "Setting -> Audio/Video"
2. Set Audio "Output Device" to any specific device, instead of default "Primary Sound Driver"
3. Make voice call

Sound is drastically distorted

I can confirm the same happening with built from scratch windows client. Sometimes it happens with default output, sometimes with changed to non default. Sounds drastically distorted.

Same thing. I never succeeded to get normal sound. In voice calls sound distorted, in videocalls no sound at all (but video works fine). On the other side was android.

mass changes for windows and its audio system since a year, feel free to test recent versions

It seems it's (now/also) a problem regarding the audio output device. There's no issue if you are using voicemeeter banana (just sound lag)

I believe it's now (also) a problem if you use external USB Sound Adapter for Windows (for example Logitech g533 gaming headset) OR external sound cards / external audio devices?

Never had any problems using other programs. So it should be possible to fix this problem (Jami update).

another issue (newest Version of Jami, Windows 10):

You can use different sources for audio output device and ringtone device - BUT as soon as you leave the settings your audio sources are suddenly the same.

BTW: I think changing the sampling rate of the external headset had little influence on the sound (but still same issue)

a side note: I set audio recordings of speech samples as a ringtone (same audio source (g533 headset)): same sound issue

so audio output device AND ringtone device are involved. However, the microphone input of the headset doesn't have any sound problems.

Using Zoom H6 zoom h6 as an external loudspeaker: not sure? little echo ...pitch gets lower?

So I did a few tests again:

Still same problem BUT:

This issue does not occur if you change ANY output device (anymore) but specifically one output device: only audio source "g533 headset". Using other programs / games on windows 10 I never had any sound problems (g533 headset).

All other output devices work fine (including voicemeeter banana), even if you change them during a call. - no sound issues.

I used an (usb) external sound card and had no sound issues at all - so I will continue at https://git.jami.net/savoirfairelinux/ring-project/-/issues/1122
