Authentication failure is badly handled for SIP

Hello,
When connecting a SIP account, if we get the username (or password?) wrong, the account still shows as connected (green dot), although the SIP account is not actually registered. The "Enable account" toggle appears to not do anything (the account remain shown as active with the green dot even when we set it to off).
As a user, I'd expect some visual feedback with a message telling me that the connection failed, perhaps with a hint to double check my credentials.
To reproduce, I used my voip.ms account but added a trailing space to my username, which caused the above behavior.
