The contact/conversation list is not complete on jami-client-android.
(a) Contact/conversations are missing.
(b) A contact/conversation between 2 conversations does not have a profile picture (avatar) nor name.
Clicking on any contact, say ourselves, shows Downloading conversation from peer.

Probably not, it's seems unrelated. Also not sure to understand why you,re unable to install, we didn't change any install instruction.
I don't reproduce any issue with contacts, and I don't know how I can help with the information provided, as far as I test the android devices looks fine :/
I am encountering similar issues with the F-Droid version. Please consider reopening this issue until it is verified fixed.
It seems to be a less extreme version of last month's problems: #1145 (closed)
The things that are similar are:
The initial blank screen when opening the app after installing the updated version
Crash to homescreen on tapping "Account Settings" the first time
After second tapping of Account Settings, shows yellow "syncing" icon ithat never turns to the green "online" one (next to profile icon)
Contacts not loading, either fully or at all, and cannot send messages (have not yet confirmed receiving them)
Force-stopping app and clearing its cache, then re-opening does not fix the problem
Thank you. However, after I opened the app, just now, and it showed the loasing circle and no contacts, I tapped the Account Settings button, which caused the app to instantly crash. Then, I opened the app again and everything seemed to load just fine. Even the syncing icon was green in the Account Settings. I force-stopped and cleared the cache, then re-opened and got the same result: it seems to work.
However, this was also occurring with last months issue (again, with stronger issues and less success), and I also noticed an increase in success when I would be in the room with the house's main router, as opposed to the back where I use a second router to extend WiFi, among other things.
So, while I think the extra router adds complexity, I'm going to still consider this an issue until I see a consistent lack of functionality upsets like this. Also, before last month's broken update and after its hotfixes, I never had this issue occur since using Jami, even on the second router. So, I don't think it's the source of the problem, even if it likely exacerbates it.

Okay, so I tested Jami as soon as I woke up (made sure to force-stop and clear cache to get it as fresh as posssible) and was greeted with the empty contacts screen and the spinning loading sign. I decided to see if I could get any logs and I was! Tapping on "Advanced Settings" while in this state did not crash the app. Here's what I got: log_20221218_084905_5881537799638990520.log
After saving that log, I started another one and tapped on the Account Settings button. As expected, it crashed the app and the log did not persist after opening the app again.
Also as expected, when I opened it again, I was greeted with a partially loaded contact list (messages were loaded, but names and avatars were not...except for mine, which I blocked out):
I decided to take some more logs as I nagivated around the app and I noticed much more activity appeared in it. So, hopefully, these will be useful: log_20221218_085100_2027127128288212227.log
After saving the log, I tried force-stopping the app and clearing the cache again, but there was no difference.
So far, this is very similar to last month's update that required a hotfix. When in this state, the text box for composing messages and replies is also gone, again:
Some factors involved: my bedroom is near the second Wi-Fi router, so that is the first thing Jami fully connected to, this morning (I don't think my phone was on cellular data for more than a second before connecting to Wi-Fi). Also, I put my phone on Airplane Mode every night before going to sleep, then take it off in the morning.
Again, while I have noticed this problem the most on this router, I have not had these issues before last month's update or after the hotfix that was released, until this last update.
I'll maybe do a log before putting on Airplane Mode just to see if anything weird happens during that time. Or, maybe I could do one for a full 24 hours.

Hmmm, I don't know if this particular error set is the same. But, my contacts and I do frequently have trouble receiving messages and have to do the routine of force-stopping the app and clearing the cache. We'll try toggling the online/offline button inside the Account Settings and see if that accomplishes the same thing.
But, I think this issue is either something different or is in addition to it.
Thanks for helping to connect the dots between different issues! I really want Jami to work as expected and fighring this stuff out is essential to that happening. So, this helps a lot.
Actually toggling online/off also has other issues like jami-project#1512 (moved) ... I just want to mention them because maybe they are related ... or maybe they are not and we'll find out
